Over at Play This Thing, Greg Costikyan wrote the following:

Quote:
Playground Worlds is a book edited by Markus Montola and Jaakko Stenro that deals with the Scandinavian LARP scene. Contributors discuss recent LARPs, issues in LARP design, jeepforms, and indie RPGs. It's now available as a free PDF from the site, and is well worth reading if you're interested in LARPs or roleplaying design in general.

Play This Thing is obviously awesome.

Playground Worlds may well be worth checking out, too. If anyone does, could you tell me what sort of stuff it comes up with?

Excellent links, guys. Thank you. I'm digging through the material on Forge theory and Sanningen om Marika now, and looking forward to reading the introduction to Jeepform.

Been reading through the first bit. The chapter on Dragonbane was stunning. A larp with a half million Euro budget? That's about 1500 Euro (~NZ$3000) per player. Where do they get that sort of money, and how the hell do they keep getting it, given that they admit that they're run by amateurs with poor project management skills?

The Nathan Hook article on the influence of Treasure Trap on UK adventure larp was also interesting, and puts a lot of what Bryn and Gremlin have said in historical context. Though you can also see that a lot of what UK larps do mechanically is a result of their shared history (and to allow cross-appeal to players familiar with that history), not because its necessarily a good idea.

I think their project management was only poor compared to the scale of what they were trying to achieve... and it seems that they were good at attracting corporate sponsorship.
