Found a flyer at Woolworths of all places for Au Contraire: A weekend-long party for SF fans, geeks, and interesting people in general featuring panels, workshops, cosplay, gaming, etc ...

Anyone know anything about this?

It's the next annual science fiction con. Au Contraire, held in Wellington in last weekend of August next year. Guests are Sean Williams and Paul Mannering.

There are also fliers in Wargames Supply.

I have never been to one of these they are usually too expensive but I noticed this year its much cheeper then I have previously seen so it kind of tempting to check out.

Hugs

Hey Jackie, I can tell you anything you want to know, as I know the organzizers quite well.

Au Contraire is being publicized internationally as a "warm-up" for WorldCon (AussieCon4) that's running the week after in Melbourne, so we have it on good authority that a number of well-known international authors will be turning up "incognito" as well as number of well known "fans" from around the world.

It's running in the Quality Hotel on Cuba St, so nice and central.

It's cheaper on purpose because some us are subsidizing it to try and get younger people who don't have as much cash, such as university students, to come along.

Anyone who wants to help and is earning well is welcome to sign up for the "Solidarity" registration!

Hi!
We're also very keen to hear what you'd like to see at the con - let us know what we can do to make it worth attending for you. Volunteers to help out with the gaming stream are most welcome (or with non-gaming events, for that matter, though that might be off-topic for this forum).
