Howdy all,

As the site only really went live on Australia day (26th Jan) I couldn't talk about this at KapCon. However, Canberra has its annual RPG 'con on in June and now is about the right time to look at flights if you are looking to head over (just saw flights for $746pp return from WGTN on Qantas for this time).

Anyways - further details here http://pheno.org.au/

Its a good 'con.

I'd like to do an Aussie con sometime, but I need to be richer first.

I went to the first GenConOZ, and it was great. Unfortunately I don't think I'll be able to generate funds for the CanberraCon this year. Perhaps next year, especially since I have people that I can probably bum a couch off over there....

Cheers
Grant

I went to Pheno last year. It had some good and unusual games, but the team element, requirement for GM auditions, market-place registration process on the Friday, and the hostile flame-war from regulars following a fair bit of less than positive feedback, really make it feel like an insiders 'con IMHO.

On the plus side Dan has established himself as a regular there, and his games had a lot of good buzz.

New GM's are "encouraged to playtest their games with committee members, and we promise to be gentle" and "The Triptych writers are required to playtest their games early and often with members of the Pheno committee". In addition game 'proposals' need to be made around 6 months before the 'con.

The Friday "registration" involves GM's sitting in booths and encouraging you to sign up for their games over the weekend. In our case a couple of GM's were fairly rude to a member of our team, others were absent, and many were awkward. Some were able to supply characters on that night, but in the case of the LARP 24 hours wasn't really enough time to organise a decent costume for many of our team.
