|The School of History and Social Sciences has five departments under it. Its dean is Dr Harvey Wilcox, a historian.
Department of History
Department of Ancient History
Department of Anthropology
Department of Archaeology
Department of Economics and Sociometrics
The Archaeology Department is headed by Francis Morgan who has just come to the position recently and is relatively young. Characters may have been studying Archaeology in this department and developed an interest in Mesoamerica. Alternatively they may have been in another department such as ancient history or anthropology and developed an interest in the Mayans and Aztecs here.
Other departments that characters may be associated with are the School of Applied Science, School of Natural Science where they would have studied surveying, geology or other appropriate areas.
Characters may have also been attracted to Miskatonic University from other institutions with the promise of possible expeditions to the Mexico area.
The university will restructure later in the 1920s but at the moment the organisation is chaotic with new schools springing up like weeds as trustees revised and expanded the curriculum. While Mesoamerican studies are not a mainstream topic at the university it has strong support from a wealthy benefactor who is willing to sponsor explorations in the area and as such the university has been attracting people with this interest.
A major block to explorations in the area of Mexico has been the political situation with no reputable institution prepared to risk sending a team there with the risk to what would be substantial investment and the area remains relatively unexplored to date.
Now that Miskatonic University has secured funding it is forging ahead with plans to survey likely sites for future further exploration and is looking to put together a small team to to conduct site surveys.
