And this year, I'm really not bluffing with the R18 for The Hand that Feeds.

Are you still looking for games, or do you have your full quota for Fright Night?

Hey Andy,

At this stage I have 18 player spaces, which is 2 more than last year, and I believe that it was a bit of a struggle to fill up then. Hopefully everyone will suddenly realise how awesome Fright Night is (plus we have another LARP) and there'll be more demand. What I'll do is throw open the pre-registrations soon, so we can see how the numbers are looking.

If there's demand then I'll line up two more games, and be in touch. FWIW I'm not going to be able to run a game either Sad

No worries Dale. I should have got my act together sooner Wink

Either way I'll certainly be there as the games look awesome. Let me know how pre-registrations pan out. I'll do my best to recruit like a good little cultist.

Mash, what kind of R18 content is it? I've signed up for this game before I saw this warning Smile

I don't think* there'll be anything really squicky - no sexual violence or child abuse - but there's the real potential for characters to encounter some pretty dark scenarios in terms of violence and suffering. The intent is not to provide a lot of gore or try to simply shock with dark imagery, I just want to signal that of the games I've run, this is certainly the darkest. (Probably not darker than Horror Victorianorum as originally conceived, but substantially darker and nastier than Death on the Streets)

* I've not put anything along these lines in the scenario, but the PCs are all pretty flawed characters, and will be "finished" by the players, so I can't guarantee it.

So body horror and torture are probably my biggest squicks. Should I pull out of this game and play the halloween party instead?

You can never really tell how things will go down, but for this scenario I wouldn't rule out seeing those things. It's not that they're a necessary thing for players to do for completing the scenario, I can just imagine that some players will go there given the environment I've been working on, and the kinds of drives in the characters.

I plan to enter the game in the SDC and re-run it at KapCon dialled back to a more general audience level of violence and darkness, but for Fright Night the challenge was laid down to me last year to run a game that actually merited an R18.

Thanks Mash, I've switched out of your game so you don't need to worry about me saying things have gone too far Smile

Might play the dialled back version at Kapcon.

Having done a bunch of work on my Fright Night game in the last few days I think this might be the first game I've written which will make the players a little freaked out... I'm certainly trying to stick with the horror theme of the evening.

The Rivers of Gold playtest run last night went very well indeed.

Except for being rather too long, which we didn't notice due to the excitement of seeing it through to the end. At Fright Night expect a shorter, more lethal version.

I was pleased to hear from Steve that, one week out from taking part in the Rivers of Gold playtest, it was still messing with his head.

Consider yourselves warned.
