This weekend we played a game of Prime Time Adventures. We made up a TV show that was a remake of a 70s rollerskating show. We called it ESBG2M.
We are writing up an account of the game scene by scene, for posterity
------------------------------------------------------
We open on a city, all grey buildings and flying cars and such. Perhaps a helicopter shot across the bay towards the city.
The camera drops down into a neat alley, lined with manicured trees. There is a funeral procession, black suits and teary eyes, escorting a foating coffin towards a wall at the end of the alley which has an oversized oven door in it. A celebrant stands at the end of the alley, ready to put the coffin into the incinerator and disintegrate it. He speaks:
"Friends, we are gathered here today to mourn the passing of one taken from us too young..."
He is interrupted by a wail of feedback, and the voice of MC Prezley coming through the PA system, and from his flying car equipped with massive loudspeakers that hovers above. Prezley shouts that 'Johnny Hero' was a true skyboarder, and is going to get the send-off he deserves.
Several characters swoop down from above on flying surfboards. One is a leather-clad tough girl called Weevil. Beside her is a shirtless hooligan with a massive tattoo of a screaming face on his chest, his head shaved but for a ponytail with a spiked metal ball at the end. There is a woman in a billowing black dress, with a black mini-veil covering her eyes. She touches a button on her sleeve and the dress morphs into a black suit. There is a blinged up white boy with bleach blond hair and a haughty look. There is a younger teen, slight of build and looking unsure.
They swoop down and grab the coffin, snatching it from the procession. A hunky boy in the funeral procession steps out in front of the tattood lunatic and attempts to stacle him (knock him off his board). The handsome boy is knocked to one side, and shakes his fist up at the skyboarders.
The boarders steal the coffin and fly off, intending to give their fallen comrade a viking send-off. The celebrant touches a comm-link in his sleeve and shouts to the police "Send in the bulls!"
We see several buildings around the neigbourhood open their rooves, and mecha fly out. A spectacular chase scene ensues, with the skyboarders throwing the coffin back and forth, outwitting and evading the bulls until they rendezvous with a massive big rig 18 wheeler, with 40 gallon drums strapped to the sides of it.
The surfers deposit the coffin respectfully into the back of the moving truck, then line up solemnly, the sun behind them. In the cab of the truck, a girl with grease on her hands and a scruffy appearance pushes a red button, and the truck goes into turbo boost. It shoots past several 'road closed' signs, up a ramp. The girl pushes a green button, and the roof of the cab opens. She activates her rocket boots and flies out, as the big rig takes off into air, rockets firing to keep it climbing out into the air over the bay.
Over the shoulders of the gathered skyboarders, we see the big rig climb and climb, then explode spectacularly over the bay in a shower of sparks and flame.
The explosion morphs to form the words:
Extreme Source Boarders Generation 2,000,000
Dramatis Personae
Sato, a Japanese Exchange Student
Prezley, a misanthropic sports commentator
Footstep (Steven), Johnny Hero's younger brother
The Straglers (poor kids)
Baby Mouse, a talented young skyboarder
Hunter, a greasemonkey mechanic in love with machines.
Cory Champeen, a hot surfer guy
The Syndicate (rich kids)
12 Step, A beautiful and brilliant boarder
Mr Darcy, her big-mouth arrogant brother
The Outkasts (dropouts)
Weevil, the tough-hot gang leader lady
Psycho Crazy (PC) - her lunatic 2IC

The scene after the credit changes to the high school cafeteria. But this is no normal cafeteria. It is an extreme cafeteria.
In one corner, there is an elevated platform where the rich kids eat lunch above the others. It is circled by velvet ropes and a tuxedo wearing bouncers keeps the poorer school kids away.
A Japanese student wearing a military style uniform approaches. He introduces himself as Sato, a new exchange student from Tokyo. Mr Darcy and 12 Step, the two most accomplished Source Boarders attending the executive cafeteria, look at him with disdain and say "You have one second to convice us that we should talk to you." Sato stackle* kicks the bouncer in the face, sending him spiralling into the poorer kids below.
"One" says Sato.
After this intergration into the group, Sato reveal that Mob Boss Takahashi (or Boss T) has put up the original Source Board (called The Source) as a prize for the Ultimate Extreme Race 2,000,000 in 2 weeks time. The wealth of knowledge The Source would have on Source Board Racing would be unparalleled and extreme.
We see that Sato has all the best new Japanese gadgets, the only country where Source Boarding is legal (as a way to keep the rebellious youth population down). After demonstrating his skills by Boarding a silver platter around the cafeteria, Sato is accepted into the Syndicate, the rich kids extreme Source Boarding team in the upcoming Johnny Hero Memorial Race.
*Stackle is the term for a Source Board tackle. _________________ Playing: Red Sun SEED (Exalted2e); Paths of the Damned (WFRP2e); When the King Comes Knocking (D&D4e)

The next scene features the 'charismatic' misanthrope Prezley, along with his sidekick Patsy, standing in front of a flashing screen. It's a fold-out wall-screen, and the corners occasionally sag, requiring them to prop them up.
On the screen we see the Source, the board that is up for grabs in Boss T's contest.
"That's right, gather round ladeez and gennelmens, this is a once in a life time opportunity!"
Weevil and Psycho crazy move into frame, as do Hunter, Cory and Baby Mouse. PC starts try to mount the screen, in a disturbing fashion.
"It's just a picture, PC," Weevil informs him, pulling him off the wall.
Prezley explains the contest, and what the Source is to the gathered Skyboarders.
"It's mine," says Cory, cocky and confident.
"Not if I get to it first," replies Weevil.
There is obvious tension between them - the best riders from each gang. Prezley looks nervous, and wonders whether he can keep the peace long enough to finish his pitch about the Johnny Hero memorial race. |

The scene is followed by one just involving the three members of the Scrabblers - Corey Champion, Baby Mouse and Hunter.
Hunter's strategy for the Jonny Hero Memorial Race will be to give the baton to Baby Mouse and have Corey Champion provide high profile cover and distraction.
Baby Mouse seems reluctant and Corey skeptical. Baby Mouse's crush on Corey and Corey's scathing words make her quietly retract into her self.
Hunter says not to worry and reveals Johnny Hero's board, saying that it will have the skills needed to win. Baby Mouse is shocked and refuses, especially when she finds out Johnny Hero's personality has been programmed into the board. Hunter insists and even goes so far as to balme Johnny's inability to fly the board as the reason for his death.
baby Mouse meekly agrees but the issue is clearly not yet resolved. _________________ Playing: Red Sun SEED (Exalted2e); Paths of the Damned (WFRP2e); When the King Comes Knocking (D&D4e)

[The next scene was Steve's to set - I think that was when Footstep tried to join the Outcasts?
Then Matt's - was this when Footstep went along on PC's date with 12 Step?
Then Debz - I have no idea what this scene was!
Then, I think, it was my scene and we began the Johnny Hero Memorial Race...] |

Celeste may have set a scene.
Then Footstep, El Loco and Skyfort.
Then Mr Irving's History class.
Then Debz' scene (?)
Then the three-way date with PC and Footstep.
Then the JHMR. _________________ Cheers,

Celeste set a scene next I believe between her and Hunter direct. I may have amalgamated that into Sam's one before.
Then I think it went Footstep initiation, history class, 12 Step's date, another scene (Debz?) then race. _________________ Playing: Red Sun SEED (Exalted2e); Paths of the Damned (WFRP2e); When the King Comes Knocking (D&D4e)

You did. Celeste's scene was the second half of the Scrabblers stuff, a one-on-one with Hunter. From all the above I think it then goes...
Steve's scene: Footstep's initiation at Skyfort.
Matt's scene: Mr Irving's history class.
Debz' scene: Psycho Crazy and 12 Step's date.
My scene: Beginning of the race. |

So that would put Matt up next for Footstep's initiation. _________________ Playing: Red Sun SEED (Exalted2e); Paths of the Damned (WFRP2e); When the King Comes Knocking (D&D4e)

There is an establishing shot of a grimy bridge (obviously for foot traffic and old-skool non-flying cars) with a large, bulky structure built on top of it. This is SKYFORT, the extreme headquarters of the gang known as the Outkasts. There are cables coming out of the Skyfort, tapping straight into the city's power. One wall is open, with a kind of skateboard ramp sticking out over the edge of the floor, out into open space. Access to the Skyfort is by flying board, or via a rickety ladder.
We see the back of a young man as he climbs the ladder. His hair is dyed black emo extreme, he wears a leather jacket and hoodlum clothes. He's climbing slowly, carrying something as he goes.
Inside the Skyfort, Weevil is welding the shit out of something. Sparks are flying everywhere. Next to her, Psycho Crazy is hanging by his feet doing crunches. Each time he reaches the top of a crunch, facing the roof, he fires a nail-gun into a dartboard (that's pinned to the ceiling).
The climbing figure emerges from the ladder, and it's revealed that it's an EXTREME makeover'd Footstep - the handsome mourner from the funeral who tried to stackle PC. He shouts out something like, "Hey! My name's Footstep. I just burned down the chemistry lab and Mr Wilkinson, and they kicked me out of school. Can I join your gang?"
PC and Weevil turn around disdainfully, ready to kick Footstep's ass. They see that he's holding a molotov cocktail and a lighter.
"Why'd you burn Wilkinson? He was all right..."
"He's probably OK. He didn't look all that flammable."
Footstep takes a swig from the molotov cocktail.
"So, can I join?"
"Why the hell would you want to join us?" Weevil asks, aggressively.
"My brother, Johnny, was a boarder with the Scrabblers. But they won't take me. Figured maybe I could learn about what he was into by joining up with you."
Weevil looks at PC, then gestures at the ramp. It's littered with sharp obstacles and dangerous traps.
"You get through there and back, and we'll talk."
PC goes to the storage locker to get a board. His hand hovers over a normal looking board, then he grabs El Loco, a board with bull horns on the front and obviously crazy controls.
"Ride this," he snarls, handing the board to Footstep.
Footstep takes the board, lights the molotov cocktail, and throws it at the ramp. It is now dangerous and ON FIRE!
He mounts the board awkwardly, clearly unskilled. It lurches forward uncontrollably into the first obstacle, and Footstep falls off, cutting his arm.
PC and Weevil laugh, and start to turn away.
Footstep drags himself up, climbs back onto the board, and continues. Weevil and PC watch as Footstep hits just about every obstacle, gets cut up and bruised and battered and singed, but keeps getting back up.
Eventually we cut to a shot of Weevil and PC looking impressed and a little sickened. The board floats into shot, with Footstep's near prone body limp on top of it. PC looks excited by the display of violence and grit.
"All right kid, you're crazy, but you're in," Weevil says, and returns to her welding.
Footstep rolls off the board, and is helped up by his new pal Psycho Crazy. |

The scene changes back to history class at the highschool. The teacher is played by David Hasselhoff, who also played one of the surfer kids in the original 70s remake of the 50s radio play.
Class begins very much as normal with children filling their brains with learning until they are asked to form groups to discuss things that are of "historical importance" to the students. One group includes the Scrabblers (Hunter, Baby Mouse and Corey Champion) and Sato. The other includes the remanider of the the Syndicate (12 Step and Mr Darcy - Hix to write up that group's discussion as my mind is a little vague on what happened).
Upon approaching the group, Sato immediately sensed the other three forming up against him. Sato seemed interested in Baby Mouse and both Hunter and Corey formed a protective wall. Sato tried to break the ice by thrusting his great grandfathers katana through the desk, explaining it historical value and how it was crafted. Corey thought it sucked.
Sato asked if Baby Mouse was to race tomorrow. The others interceded and Corey (her idol) again belittled Baby Mouse, this time in front of Sato. Sato however saw through their comments, andthe fact that they saw B-Mouse's skills too. Sato became certain that she would be the Scrabblers Baton holder in the race.
B-Mouse retracted into her own personal VR cyberware space (called a Crash Sphere). Unfortunately, Sato's gadgetry allowed him to hack into her Crash Sphere in his avatar as a Samurai. There he told her that she had 2 days to be ready as he would show her no mercy.
Elsewhere in the class, Prezley requested to go to the bathroom. _________________ Playing: Red Sun SEED (Exalted2e); Paths of the Damned (WFRP2e); When the King Comes Knocking (D&D4e)

Fascinated with the new student, 12-Step lets Footstep join her group.
However, when she learns that Footstep is trying to learn how his brother died, she's wracked with guilt ... because she caused Johnny Hero's death.
Giving nothing away, 12-Step blames the board Johnny was riding, and sets Footstep on a path to confront the person who built the board ...
Hunter. _________________ Cheers,

If Hix doesn't, I will. Though I think 12 Step's view may be more "comprehensible" than PC's _________________ Playing: Red Sun SEED (Exalted2e); Paths of the Damned (WFRP2e); When the King Comes Knocking (D&D4e)

The scene opens on a kiss - 12 Step and her imporbable boyfriend Psycho Crazy. It's a big, passionate, sloppy kiss. The camera pulls back slightly, and the two disentangle from each other, and we see that Footstep is standing bemused behind them.
"Hi 12 Step, this is my new buddy Footstep," PC shouts enthusiastically, taking 12 Step somewhat by surprise.
"Yeah, hi," says Footstep, obviously feeling a little superfluous. 12 Step gives him an appraising look.
"Yeah, we've met," she says, as the three head into the EXTREME virtual movie theatre. "I thought this was, y'know, a date."
"It totally is, babe," PC replies, grinning at Footstep.
Inside, Psycho Crazy sits between Footstep and 12 Step. He is clearly excited to have his new friend along on the date. PC is bouncing up and down, throwing food at other patrons, and staring at people.
"Do you want any popcorn?" he asks in general.
"Sure," 12 Step replies, and PC leaps up into the aisle and punches a passerby, grabbing his popcorn and drink as he falls.
"Here. I'm going for more food," PC declares, and runs out.
There is a moment of awkward silence between Footstep and 12 Step. She leans across to him.
"Why were you asking about Johnny Hero today?" she asks.
Footstep draws breath to speak, but is interrupted by the flying body of PC, who crashes back into his seat.
"I got you some nachos, babe," he says, handing 12 Step a plate of corn chips. "Here's the cheese," he adds, pulling a glob of melted cheese out from inside his vest. 12 Step looks at him disdainfully.
"If you knew anything about me, you'd know that I don't like nachos," she says icily.
"I got you an ice-cream," PC says proudly, handing a wrapped ice-cream to Footstep. He is clearly oblivious to what's going on.
Holographically projected into the theatre, the film is about a group of dinosaurs who have to save the planet from a meteor that's going to hit the earth. PC is momentarily distracted, and asks what's going on.
