SANCon 2012 - Christchurch Sept 28-30

Good morning! We're running another con in Christchurch, which is more aimed at popular culture, but will still have its share of roleplaying and board gaming, as well as other gaming-related events (I'm going to be running a Sagefight tournament, for example). It's called SANCon, and I imagine it'll be a decent bit of fun.

More info here, and if you want to be kept in the loop, check this page.

Jan - Do tell us how the tournament works out. I am looking at it as a mechanic in a game

What, the Sagefight tournament? We ran one last year.

It's generally pretty chaotic as people have to work out what constitutes a hit and what doesn't in the middle of the game. You don't have any time to arbitrate if you're using a metronome for timing (which is what I did). Some people will sit on the outskirts and try not to get involved in the melee - they tend to do far too well, so I may need a way of fixing that this year.

People with long arms win Masters Without Swords. There may also be some technique involved, but our resident fencers dropped out of the tournament before the final, so take that as you will.
